OUR STORY
Too often, young people are expected to return to “normal” life after incarceration without the proper tools, resources, and relationships necessary to be successful. And many services and programs offered today are scattered throughout the boroughs of the city, making it a difficult task for individuals to find the support they need.
Most agencies are not equipped to provide long-term support and guidance, which can result in young people falling back into the hands of the criminal justice system.
Did you know the rate for those in the juvenile justice system climbs from 34% one year after conviction, to 43% after two years, and 64% after three years ? That's almost DOUBLE from year-one when support systems were strongest.
We saw the gaps, the statistics, and the young individuals fall back into their "old ways" of life and couldn't sit back and let the patterns continue. Change needed to happen.
What began as a stirring of the heart to help change and influence the trajectory for young people involved in the criminal justice system, led to the launch of Passionate Imaginative Leaders of Tomorrow (PILOT).
Today, the PILOT exists to rewrite the narrative of recidivism among the young people in our city. Through continued comprehensive care, individuals in our program will have the tools they need to confidently step out of the revolving prison doors and walk freely into the life they wish to take hold of.
